The New York Council for the Humanities is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the National Endowment for the Humanities, whose mission is to promote lifelong learning in the humanities through educational programs and grants. The Council's programs include a popular lecture bureau, linking distinguished scholars to local cultural organizations; grants for public programs exploring history, heritage and culture at museums, libraries, and historical societies across the state; reading and discussion book groups at local libraries for adults and families; and maintains a website of public programming.
